Hamburg--Rathaus and around the Stadt

We took a bus from Mannheim to Hamburg on March 14th, and it was quite...interesting. We left around 11 pm, and we took our first break around 2 am. The driver kept on going past the places that were actually open, so we spent quite a lot of time in reverse...pretty sure he stalled the bus out too.

But after we got into Hamburg, we stopped at the hostel (which was extremely nice and clean! Better than Ulmenweg, lol), ate breakfast, and then headed into the city.

Our first stop was das Rathaus. One of the few older parts of the city, the square was quite beautiful.

The statues along the top are of all the emperors

This is a model of the city, complete with Braille, so even those who are blind can get a "feel" for the city.

Then we moved to the side of the Rathaus, and went in the Courtyard. Just wish there hadn't been snow (and wintery time) so the fountain could have been working!

We took a walking tour around Hamburg--I didn't really like the guide...he didn't really have very much information, just kept saying "This is the exact path I took on my school trip when I was 8." Yeah.

Fun building built on the side of a normal, 1950s block one.
Their signs are still cool! They make every building seem cooler, lol.

The building with the "wavy" roof is the new Philharmonic building. Right now it's a couple years behind schedule, and 400 million overbudget. Apparently there are problems with the roof...and Hamburgers (haha, gotta love it) are not very happy. Apparently they threaten to close libraries in Germany too...while building overpriced buildings.

And that was it for our city tour. The next day we took a boat tour (with a much more interesting guide!) that was a lot more informative. :)
