St. Michael Church and Harbor Tour

The one nice thing about VISUM trips is that they're subsidized by DAAD and some other organizations! That means for we got the bus transportation there and back, 3 day metro ticket, walking tour, harbour tour, and two nights with breakfast in a hostel for 100 euros.  Pretty awesome.

The U-bahn was just finished last September, so everything was still really clean and fresh, and there were relatively few people (except coming back from St. Paulis area...then there were a million people and we were packed in like sardines). Here's a picture of one of the entrances--nice and bright!

This is where we had lunch one of the days...at a train station. It was just schnitzel, took forever, and was extremely tough. I wasn't very happy to say the least!

Nice train station though!

This is St. Michaelis Church. Unfortunately it isn't Catholic, but we decided to pay to climb up the stairs to the top (unfortunately the lift wasn't working). I don't know what it is about Europe, but I've never paid to climb so many stairs!

St. Michael the Archangel--inside view while climbing up the stairs.

Bells! I love bells! :)

View of the city from the top. You can see the Philharmonic building (nicely with a zoom on the camera...no need to pay to use that telescope pictured above, lol).

Me! Kinda cold here though...that's why I love scarves! I definitely wouldn't have been able to get through winter without them. :)

The zoom on my camera worked really well here, lol. TV tower.

Apparently we missed the reopening of the themepark by a day. People get so excited talking about Europa Park, etc and I just laugh and say I have season tickets to Universal Orlando. Hehehehehe.

Apparently the arrow is to represent "always remember" after Hamburg was bombed, as a warning for the future. I just think it makes it a nice target. (This is the ruins of the church shown in my other post)

The inside of the church was very large, but above all bright. It was very welcoming (and warm after being outside!)

I think it looks like the lady is going to get some ball lobbed on her head (I know it's a sword, but still :D )

They have crypts here too. Here's the entrance to them (didn't go inside because that would have cost more money...and above all, we are cheap! :p )

St. Michael statue from the outside!

Random street art!

The harbor tour was great. This here is one of the container vessels...which are huge! (especially when you're right next to it!)

Scrap metal...apparently very valuable to sell to China.

Haha, the Wasserboot.
That was the end of our harbor tour, and I got 5 really cool postcards for a euro! Good deal. :)

  1. I was in both parks, orlando and Europa Park. They are both great, but the Europa Park has more details: www.park-rust.de - orlando has more great coasters. But you have to see Europa Park to make your own view!
